At Toolbox, we have been aggressively building capacity in video production. And it's not just because we find movies mesmerizing (though we do). Video gets a lot of information across very quickly. Search engines love it. And of course, people are a lot more likely to pass a video around to their friends through social networks.
But the real power of video is in the rich character it can illustrate. A video's ability to weave a bunch of subtle cues together - through shot selection, lighting, pacing, music, and a bajillion other variables - is pure magic. When used effectively, it's an incredibly powerful tool for a brand.
There are a million videos out there that demonstrate the power of the medium. But just to illustrate the profound emotions that a video can excite, in a short time frame, here's one of our all-time favourites.
Yeah, the video is about "zero-engineered" bikes, and this guy Shinya Kimura building them from scratch, and him heading out into the desert to ride them. But it's also about the singular world he lives in. The deep peace of his vision. His "vulnerability and wildness" (beat that for a catchphrase). It's an incredible character study, and a beautiful piece of film artistry.
With any luck, we'll be producing work with that kind of impact in no time.
